16 ❀ Geotagging

Geotagging...is kind of cool, I suppose. It's not something I could see myself using all of the time, really.

Buuut since this Thing wanted me to do that, I quickly uploaded my zombie picture to Flickr and geotagged it. Why yes, I do love that picture.

Then I looked at the Flickr World Map, and I found some amazing images on there. It puts my shoddy photography skills to shame! Seriously!

Here are a couple.

Looking at professional photos never gets old.

15 ❀ Podcasts

I hear about podcasts all the time, but I never really wanted to get into them. They just don't seem like my kind of thing. Buuut since this Thing wanted me to check one out, so I did.

The main podcast I hear about a lot is the KWDB podcasts of the Dave Ryan in the Morning talk show bits and such. I love listening to the show, so I gave some of their podcasts a listen. I found this one, "Lies Your Ex Told You", particularly interesting. I wanted to listen to the bit I missed a couple weeks ago about teachers ranting about annoying kids and parents that they had to deal with, but I couldn't find it! Darn.

Anyway, I recommend giving these podcasts a listen; the Dave Ryan Show is hilarious!

14 ❀ Research Project Calculators

Oh wow, now this is a tool that I could see myself using! I'm pretty bad when it comes to getting research projects done on time. I tend to cram everything in at the last second, but I've been getting better with it over time.

But with something like this...I could know what times to do stuff so I could have everything done on time!

I want to give this thing a try once I do get a research project to do.

13 ❀ Get Productive

Being productive is definitely something that I need help with.

I was never one to use calendars, let alone online ones, but I do make to-do lists from time to time. In fact, I've made one for Wednesday and Thursday. I usually just post them on my Livejournal, set to private so only I can see it. I'm generally good at remembering that it's there. I've found that I've been needing to make them more often because I've been pretty forgetful with all these college due dates.

My start page...is just Livejournal. It's my main site and the first thing that I like to check the moment I get on. Although, I can see those special start pages coming in handy.

Once I'm done with these Things, I get to check this off on my to-do list, haha!

12 ❀ Tags and Del.icio.us

I had a feeling that I would get asked to do some tagging at some point! This is a habit that I want to get into that I haven't gotten around to doing on my Livejournal. I went around my entries and tagged them all. At least I don't have to tag nearly as many as I would if I went to do on my LJ. I have over 400 entries on that thing!

Next up was Del.icio.us. That's an interesting name to type out. I keep just wanting to type "delicious" without the periods. Anyway, I wasn't aware of this handy tool either! At first, I thought "well, I categorize my bookmarks already, I wouldn't really need this..." and then I saw that you can open your bookmarks on any computer. That really caught my eye. It'd be nice to have that for class bookmarks indeed! I'm going to try to use this in the future.

11 ❀ Slideshows

It's been a while since I put together an online slideshow, but I remember using Slide before, so I went with that for this Thing. I put together a compilation of pictures that I took at Anime Detour in 2006 and 2007. It sure brings back memories!

10 ❀ More Flickr

I played around with the Flickr Fields Colr Pickr for this Thing. I picked red from the color wheel and got a bunch of cool pictures! Credit goes to the respective owners, of course. That's a neat little tool though!

I then headed over to Big Huge Labs and tried out the Pop Art creator. I got this result:

It's decent, I suppose.

Big Huge Labs has some pretty cool utilities. I wanna try the Motivator Poster generator and Lolcat generator sometime!

09 ❀ Flickr

In this Thing, I took a look around Flickr in search of interesting images. I remember using Flickr before to look at UFO Catchers, which are Japanese crane games filled with stuffed toys or other collectibles, much like the ones you see in the US. So I searched up some more, and found some adorable pictures. Here are a couple:

Man-jyu by Vinka. Aren't they just adorable? ♥

Rilakkuma UFO Catcher by akaisofa

And here is a photo of a big arcade full of UFO Catchers! Ugh, what I would do to be able to go into one of those. Though, maybe it's for the best. I'd probably blow all of my money in a heartbeat.

08 ❀ Wikis

Now here's something that I'm very familiar with: Wikis. They're one of my main sources of information on miscellaneous subjects that I want to know more about.

Of course I don't use them for papers, as I can see where teachers are coming from when they say that this isn't a credible source. Everyone and anyone can edit these pages, so you don't really know if it's 100% credible. Still, most of the time I find the info pretty believable.

My favorite Wikis to visit are Wikipedia, the Kingdom Hearts Wiki, Bulbapedia, and the Yu-Gi-Oh! Wiki.

I played around in the Wiki Sandbox, mostly because I don't want to mess up the format any of the existing Wiki pages. It's actually pretty fun! But...I'll leave the Wiki editing to the "experts", haha.

07 ❀ Collabs

Now here's another tool that I wasn't aware of! It's like Microsoft Word, but online! I think that's pretty nifty!

I played around with the Ai Tips document on Google Docs, and boy did I have a lot to edit around. I figure it was done horribly on purpose, but man.

...At least I hope it was done like that on purpose.

Now, the prompts brought up an interesting subject: What would our founding fathers think of a tool like this? You know, I bet they would get a kick out of it. I think they wouldn't mind using it either. It's pretty nifty, and you'd be able to read everything...hopefully? As for the final draft of the Declaration of Independence...I don't know. I think it's pretty amazing without the use of Google Docs or something like that.

But you never know!

06 ❀ Series of Tubes

I always knew that the news was on the web, but I hadn't heard of news sites like these! That's actually kinda cool how you get to decide what is important and what isn't. I bet you'd find a lot of interesting stories reaching the headlines.

FBI Rescues Over 50 Children from Prostitution in Cross Country Sting

...like this. That's pretty insane!

And this! I must say, I was pretty shocked, looking through that article.

I could definitely see this being a good source when you're researching. Although, looking at Reddit made me a little skeptical about credibility, judging from some of the the topic titles. Mixx looked a little better from what I saw.

Overall, I might keep my eyes on these for future reference!

05 ❀ Tweeting Nation

Oh boy, Twitter! I've had one for quite a while, so I chose that for this Thing. Plurk just never really interested me.

I don't update my Twitter as frequently as I used to, but it's a lot of fun when I'm really into it. I reeeeally like playing around with my Twitter layout. Can you spot the Graphic Designer in me shining through? I especially like reading witty Tweets, although I'm not clever enough to come up with many of my own.

One thing I'll never get about Twitter though, is the trending topics and the Tweets with the # in front of them. I should probably look that up some time.

If you'd like to follow me on Twitter, head on over to my profile and send me a following request. Yes, I protect a lot of my sites, I know. I just hope that the 16 Things account can figure out who I am...

04 ❀ Social Networking

While I do have a Facebook, I never really considered using it for professional reasons. My main reasons for using it was to keep up with my high school friends, especially since we've split up for our separate college adventures. I mostly like to just mess around there and do those silly quizzes and "Pick Your 5" thingies.

I suppose it wouldn't be a bad idea to set up an account on one of those professional network sites too, since my Facebook is more for the reasons stated above. Although, it couldn't hurt to spruce up my Facebook a little.

Oh, if you want to look at my Facebook, you can find it here, although I have it viewable to friends only. Send me a friend request, I'm not too picky!

03 ❀ Communication

Thing #3: checking out My Ai Campus! I must say, I'm quite fond of that site. It comes in handy for checking my grades, signing up for classes, and so much more! I find myself using my new email a lot. It also keeps me updated on certain things going on on campus. Veeery handy!

As I was looking around, I found the clubs/organizations list, and it got me thinking about my visit to the club fair last Thursday. I really wish I could attend anime club, but I don't have classes on Fridays, and that's when the club takes place. I commute, so it would really be going out of my way to get to the school late in the day just for a couple hours, y'know? Hopefully I'll be able to get a Friday class next term! Another unfortunate thing is that all the clubs that take place on days that I do have classes are waaay later in the day, long after the express buses home stop running.

Okay, that was going a little off subject, but it still has to do with communication, y'know?

Well, that's all the Things I can get done for tonight. I've got some homework to work on still! Then it's more time to relax, haha~

02 ❀ RSS and Feeds

Alrighty, the next Thing on my list was dealing with feeds. I headed on over to Bloglines and set up an account there. I'm not exactly sure how much I'm going to use it though, since the only main blog site that I look at a lot is Livejournal.

Yeah, Livejournal is where my main blog is (you can view it here if you're curious). I love having my feed there though, where I can follow my friends' blogs and LJ communities that are relevant to my interests. It comes in a lot of handy because that would certainly be hard to keep up with if I didn't have my little LJ feed.

So since I've got a whole different style of blog here, I'll probably use Bloglines to keep track of other people's Blogger blogs. :D It wouldn't hurt to find some new news feeds to follow too, I suppose!

01 ❀ Creation

Hello, everyone! Brittany here, just setting up my first entry for "16 Things". The first step, create a blog. And viola, here is the blog! I also made a Yahoo avatar. I tried to get it as close to myself IRL as possible. Yes, I totally want a pet bat! It'd be awesome!

I'm going to try to pretty it up in days to come, but right now I'm just going to focus on the actual 16 things that I have to do.

Keep your eyes peeled, because I'm going to be one busy girl.
